Naval Air Station Fallon

Custom-designed, automated, trailer-mounted LNAPL recovery system

A 40-acre LNAPL plume consisting of floating jet fuel particles is contaminating a shallow aquifer beneath a fuel farm at Nevada’s Naval Air Station Fallon. MYC designed an automated trailer-mounted LNAPL recovery system to continuously recover LNAPL from the highest producing wells. MYC’s custom-designed truck-mounted bioslurping system is also being used on a biweekly basis to recover LNAPL from up to 120 additional wells.

Hermit’s Peak Fire Burn Area

Asbestos abatement and removal

In 2022, the Hermit’s Peak Wildfires devastated New Mexico’s Mora and San Miguel counties, burning more than 350,000 acres and 600 properties. The wildfires left behind significant asbestos and hazardous waste materials throughout the region. Within a three-month period, the MYC team provided asbestos abatement services at 79 properties and for 181 burned vehicles. Abatement activities included mobilization of crews and heavy equipment to remote locations, establishment of safe work zones, removal actions, loading and securing hazardous and burn waste, transport of wastes to disposal and recycling facilities, confirmation sampling, site cleanup and housekeeping, and documentation.

North Railroad Avenue Plume Site (CERCLA, NRAP)

Returning contaminated groundwater to constructive use

In Española, NM, millions of gallons of groundwater have been contaminated with pollutants from a nearby laundromat. The impacted aquifer is the only source of drinking water for the City of Española and Santa Clara Pueblo. A remediation project overseen by the MYC team has returned millions of gallons of contaminated groundwater to constructive use.

North Railroad Avenue Plume Site (CERCLA, NRAP)

Developing new industry standards

Data and samples from the North Railroad Avenue Plume site were used to launch a new tool for environmental molecular diagnostics; high-throughput DNA sequencing (HTS). This research has resulted in a new standard recently published in Standards of Genomics Science for metagenome phylogenetic profiling of microbial community evolution in contaminated aquifers responding to enhanced reductive dechlorination.

Naval Air Station North Island

Contaminated soil removal and off-site removal

Located along the San Diego Bay in the southwest portion of Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado, California, Site 9 is situated on approximately 50 acres. The contaminated soil at the site presented potential unacceptable ecological and human health risks. MYC performed soil removal and off-site disposal of the contaminated soil at an appropriately permitted landfill.

ServiceMaster Restore Albuquerque

Preferred demolition and reconstruction contractor

ServiceMaster Restore Albuquerque, a progressive disaster restoration company, specializes in water damage restoration and fire damage restoration. ServiceMaster Restore contracts exclusively with MYC to protect home occupants from lead contamination and asbestos. MYC is also ServiceMaster’s preferred contractor for the demolition and reconstruction of fire- and water-damaged homes and commercial sites throughout Albuquerque.

Papa Franks

Permitting and building re-engineering

After a fire devastated beloved Albuquerque restaurant Papa Franks, the restaurant required extensive re-construction services to bring the building up to code before it could re-open to the public. MYC permitted and re-engineered the building structure to meet all city code requirements.
